first_imgAs Phish fans departed from their beloved Garden, some lucky ones made their way over to American Beauty for an after-party for the ages with Spafford and The Magic Beans. The two white-hot rising stars of the jam scene made quite the impression on night one of their two-night, sold-out residency. The Beans have been making a name for themselves for the past few years, breaking out of their home base on the Front Range of Colorado and hitting festivals and clubs nationwide. Their infectious, good-vibes energy got the party started and had fans dancing through the wee hours. An established band in the scene already, the Magic Beans were the perfect opening slot for the relatively new up-and-comers that would follow.Spafford is an improvisational force to be reckoned with. Hailing from Arizona, the unbelievably tight quartet had never played on the east coast, so New Yorkers were in for a rare treat from the get-go. Their patient jams and balls-to-the-wall energy made for a special combination, and they have simply been blowing audiences away since they first set foot out the door. Last night was no exception, and their growing fanbase multiplied because of it.Spafford | American Beauty | New York City, NY | 12/30/16 Set: In The Eyes of Thieves > Bee Jam > All In, Slip and Squander, Electric Taco Stand > Dis Go In 5? > Electric Taco Stand, WeaselE: Palisades > Salamander Song, Beautiful DayTonight, Spafford opens the evening with The Magic Beans to follow.
