first_img(WARNING VIEWERS DISCRETION IS ADVISED.)Police are investigating after a police officer fatally shot a woman during an attempted arrest, in which she claimed to be pregnant.Snapchat video taken by a witness shows a Texas police officer struggling to arrest a 45-year-old woman before deploying his Taser. The grainy video displays a struggle between the suspect and the officer as he attempts to arrest her.The video then shows the female suspect on the ground screaming “I’m pregnant” before the officer fires five shots from his gun.Officials say the officer was required to use his Taser to subdue the suspect, but as he attempted to handcuff her, she grabbed the weapon and used it on him.The officer then fired five shots, one of which fatally struck the woman identified as Pamela Shantay Turner.Police say a preliminary investigation found it was necessary for the officer to use deadly force.“If somebody takes your Taser away from you and starts tasing you, there’s a very good likelihood that this is going to escalate and get very bad for the officer from there,” said Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris. The officer is an 11-year veteran of the force and has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation. The incident was also recorded on the officer’s body-cam, but the footage will not be released at this time. This story is developing.last_img
