Members of the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary rescued the terrified creature but he died a short time later at the sanctuary in Raphoe. Now people who have heard of Bobby’s horrific plight want to erect a statue in Fanad to remind people of the suffering being inflicted on animals across Donegal on a daily basis. The Justice For Bobby Campaign is being supported by the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary.A spokesman said “Bobby and his companion suffered in silent hope as the Atlantic storms battered their frail little bodies. “We want to erect a memorial in Fanad to this little donkey in the hope that he will be the animal that will turn the tide and bring change.“When tourists visit this beautiful part of Donegal, they will be forever reminded of this little animal and his suffering and how he did not die in vain,” he said. The group also want to gather as many signatures as possible calling for a stop to animal cruelty once and for all.The petition will be taken by donkey and cart and delivered to the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney at Leinster House.“We wish to see changes in the law that will make people accountable for their actions,” added the spokesman.
