(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)After three quarters of the play in the 2018 SEC title game, Georgia is beating Alabama, 28-21. As such, many college football fans are wondering what happens to the Crimson Tide if they lose the contest. At the moment, there are realistically six teams that have an argument regarding the College Football Playoff. Clemson, if it beats Pittsburgh on Saturday night in the ACC title game, will be a shoo-in.Notre Dame, with a 12-0 record, is likely in as well – though that doesn’t seem to be 100% at the moment.Georgia, if it held on against Alabama, would be a 100% lock with an SEC title and a win of this quality. In theory, that would leave one spot left for Alabama, Oklahoma, which knocked off Texas earlier in the day, and Ohio State, if it can beat Northwestern. Good luck picking between those three.ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit thinks Alabama is going to be in the playoff, win or lose. He isn’t the only one.If Bama wins close game1-Bama2-Clemson 3-ND4-UGAIf UGA wins1-Clemson2-UGA3-Bama4-NDIf Bama blows UGA out1-Bama2-Clemson 3-ND4-OU/OSU debate.— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) December 1, 2018But FiveThirtyEight’s playoff predictor actually only gives Alabama an 18% of making it in if it loses on Saturday night. Our best guess? A close loss still gets Alabama in, meaning three conference title winners (Washington, Oklahoma, possibly Ohio State) don’t get in this year. Here comes the controversy.last_img read more
